40 hrs/wk, Primary: Days, Secondary: Night, 0430-1230


Assists in processing gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens including opening, numbering, preparing, staining, accessioning, and filing.


  • Prepares and stains gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology slides using department procedures.
  • Accessions specimens using existing laboratory information systems.
  • Files slides accurately in a timely manner for future referencing.
  • Provides immediate response to client inquiries regarding HPV add-ons, supplies, report amendment, reprinting, and faxing.
  • Operates and performs preventative maintenance on the automated staining instrument for gynecologic slides.
  • Maintains appropriate quality assurance monitors.
  • Assists in Histology Department as assigned.
  • Adheres to confidentiality, safety, compliance, and legal requirements.
  • Maintains consistent and reliable attendance and complies with company guidelines on attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Capabilities 

  • Light physical effort (lift/carry up to 25 lbs.)
  • Occasional reaching, stopping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Frequent prolonged standing/sitting/walking.
  • Must be able to see, hear, and respond adequately.
  • Moderate computer work
  • Finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

Working Environment 

  • Air conditioned lab environment with some exposure to bio-hazard areas.
  • Subject to electrical and radiant energy hazards.
  • Sufficient noise and interruptions to cause distractions.
  • Occasional exposure to video display terminals.
  • May be asked to work occasional irregular or extended hours.

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Medical terminology knowledge required
  • Computer data entry experience required
  • Passes company drug testing program pre-hire and thereafter on a periodic and/or random basis
