  • Overview

    The IT Analyst assists in the support and maintenance of the Company systems, participates in testing, validation and implementation of new systems, processes and technology applications.


    Under limited supervision, and in accordance with Company policies, procedures and guidelines, this position:


    • Provides timely response to technical questions and problems related to database and devices in CLH application systems, takes corrective action or refers the issues to the appropriate resource as necessary
    • Resolves internal and external client dissatisfactions by initiating a thorough investigation of complaint, evaluates findings, and responds ASAP to client(s)
    • Resolves discrepancies in reports by consulting with appropriate technical and managerial staff
    • Assesses problem resolution for future applicability and forwards to appropriate quality assurance individual (supervisor, manager, pathologist, etc.).
    • Maintains application databases, and participates in enhancement and development for the systems
    • Participates in all phases of IT systems and technology projects and development as assigned; including planning, design, coordination, testing and validation following established guidelines
    • Provides appropriate support services to CLH staff and business partners on technical and financial processes
    • Provides after-hour support of IT users as assigned
    • Participates in Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) development and staff training.
    • Works with purchasing department staff and CLH vendors for hardware/software repair, evaluation and/or acquisition
    • Maintains professional/technical knowledge by reading professional publications and attending continuing education seminars and classes
    • Adheres to safety, confidentiality, compliance, and legal requirements
    • Maintains consistent and reliable attendance and complies with company guidelines on attendance
    • Performs other duties as assigned

    Physical Capabilities

    • Light to moderate physical effort (lift/carry up to 25 lbs.)
    • Occasional carrying, pushing, and pulling of objects.
    • Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching.
    • Must be able to hear, see, and respond adequately.
    • Frequent prolonged sitting.
    • Use of hands and fingers.

    Working Environment


    Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment including: 

    • Occasional travel (including off island) to various worksites (hospital labs, patient service centers, etc.) may also be required, depending on assignment. 
    • Frequent exposure to video display terminals.
    • Occasional contact with water (hand washing and cleaning), bio-hazardous body fluids, and occasional hazardous chemicals. 
    • Sufficient noise and interruptions to cause distraction. 
    • Maybe asked to work extended hours.
    • Handling of emergency or crisis situations.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

    • Knowledge of standard business applications (ie. Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word).
    • Knowledge of computer hardware and software operations and capabilities.
    • Knowledge of computer application troubleshooting.
    • Ability to detect, analyze and resolve computer software and network problems.
    • Ability to interact with users, and provide clear and useful instruction and training; or obtain necessary information to correct production problems on a timely basis.
    • Ability to identify and monitor potential operational malfunctions.
    • Ability to correctly install and maintain computer hardware and software.
    • Ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions.
    • Ability to solve hardware and software problems in a logical manner. 


    • Knowledge of the CLH systems, overall business workflow and design.
    • Knowledge of CLH information technology department standards and policies.
    • Skill in identifying and monitoring potential operational malfunctions and programming errors.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other technical staff, vendors and users.
    • Ability to respond quickly and effectively to uncertainty and constant changes in technology.
    • Ability to read and analyze technical information to determine the usefulness of hardware and software to CLH applications.
    • Ability to understand how to effectively manipulate computer hardware, software, and network operations and capabilities.

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Physical, Biological, Laboratory or Computer Sciences
    • MT or MLT certification with two years working experience in the various clinical laboratory sections preferable
    • One-year experience in Laboratory Information Services (LIS) related areas preferable
    • An eagerness to learn is absolutely necessary
    • Possesses in-depth knowledge of LIS and other mission-critical applications
    • Possesses advanced computer skills and knowledge of the network and peripheral devices used for the various systems. Also shows a willingness to learn more of the technical, procedural and support of those systems
    • For hospital settings, additional requirements may apply and change without notice, including, but not limited to, criminal background check, health clearance and hospital compliance training
    • Successfully pass Company pre-employment drug test and periodic and random thereafter
